Learning Objectives

The student will be familiar with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and understand the Incident Command System (ICS).
The student will understand how technology can enhance the different organizational missions, goals, and objectives at a major incident or disaster.
The student will understand the importance of an incident command post (ICP) and how technology can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of an ICP.
The student will understand the typical configuration of an emergency operations center.
The student will explore some of the technologies used in the response to major incidents and disasters.

Since the publication of the book, the Incident Command System has been adopted nationwide via the National Incident Response System (NIMS). While the overall system is now referred to as NIMS, instead of SEMS, the basic components as outlined in the book remain virtually unchanged.
